“Mulholland Drive” is a wild, edgy thriller from David Lynch. Much of the movie has a dreamlike feel to it and it stars two stunning actresses – Naomi Watts and Laura Harring.
The film features several erotic lesbian love scenes with these two actresses, ranging from sensual and tender to more edgy and intense.
The iconic intimate scene between Naomi Watts as Betty and Laura Harring as Rita occurs in the “dream” portion of the film. Betty, fresh-faced and in pink pajamas with her blonde hair shining, is already in the large bed. She kindly invites Rita, who has been sleeping on the couch, to join her for comfort, noting it’s more comfortable than the couch. Rita, still wrapped in a towel from showering, drops it and climbs into bed naked beside Betty, revealing Rita’s beautiful figure to Betty the audience. There’s a moment of slight awkwardness on Betty’s face as she takes in Rita’s lovely nudity, mixed with curiosity and emerging desire. They lie side by side. Rita, looking up at Betty with earnest gratitude for all her help, leans over and whispers, “Good night, sweet Betty,” planting a gentle kiss on her forehead. Betty turns her face upward, says good night, and their lips meet in a tentative, soft kiss—their first. The kiss quickly deepens with passion. It’s an increble scene showing a sweet connection while also being incredible erotic. It’s shot intimately with close-ups on faces, hands, and bodies, emphasizing vulnerability, reciprocity, and a fleeting sense of pure connection.
Later in the film, the setting is no longer dreamlike, and we have Naomi Watts as Diane Selwyn and Laura Harring as Camilla Rhodes. This scene is more raw and intense, featuring both actresses in their topless glory. Camilla is lounging on the couch, topless and alluring, heavily made up with dark lipstick. It’s a completely different vibe as compared to Rita in the dream sequences. Diane is also topless and she eagerly straddles Camilla. They share a passionate kiss and the scene starts to intensify for a brief moment as Diane caressing tries to advance the sexual encounter until Camilla’s expression abruptly turns cold and serious. The scene is incredibly hot and sexy given the two beautiful actresses, and both scenes are pivital in creating the contrast from the dream world and harsh reality.
Finally, we get a bonus kiss, with Laura Harring as Camilla sharing a brief kiss with a beautiful blonde woman (played by Melissa George) which makes Diane jealous.
The film is definitely worth seeing, and not just for these two incredible actresses.
